Why
create a website about an orchestra that had worldwide success over half a century ago but disbanded in 1963?
Because
- to this day, no other accordion orchestra has mastered such an extensive and varied repertoire at such a high musical and technical level
- hardly anyone else has had such a lasting influence on the development of accordion literature (solo and orchestral) as the conductor and composer Rudolf Würthner
- due to its exceptional quality, it was able to undertake major concert tours through many European and non-European countries and perform in many large and famous concert halls
- this orchestra was the only one in the entire history of the accordion to work on a purely professional basis
- the orchestra still serves as a role model for many who came after it
- Intensive research has shown that no information or appreciation can be found on the internet.
There is also a very personal reason:
The author of these pages was the first of a whole series of ‘orchestra babies’ from a total of eight marriages within the orchestra.
These pages are therefore also a piece of history about a family of musicians.
