From January to March 1961, the orchestra's second major concert tour outside Europe took it to the USA, Canada and Mexico.

First concert at Town Hall, New York, on 14 January
Bus tour
New York – Cleveland – Chicago – Milwaukee – Sheboygan – Louisville – St. Louis – Kansas City (with a reception hosted by then US President Harry S. Truman) – Hayes – Denver – Salt Lake City – Portland – Victoria and Vancouver (Canada) – Seattle – Berkeley – San Francisco – San José – Sacramento – Santa Monica – Phoenix/Arizona – Dallas – Houston/Texas
Flight from Laredo to Mexico City with several concerts and a detour to Puebla.
Flight from Mexico City to Buffalo / Lake Erie
Bus to New York with a final concert.
Return journey by ship with a concert during the crossing.

The journey from the United States to Mexico was one of the orchestra's very rare trips by aeroplane.
